I have to think that Matt Drudge's DrudgeReport.com will become more relevant during the Obama administration than during the 8 years of Bush.
Here is my reasoning:
The traditional media outlets never liked Bush and did their constitutional duties by scrutinizing Bush's every word and action. However, just as the traditional media were relatively soft on Bill Clinton, I expect that they will continue to be as supportive of Obama after he is elected than they were during the campaign.
I suspect that some in the traditional media consider that Obama is their guy and that they helped elect him. This sense of ownership could in some cases cause the reporting to be less thorough than they would otherwise do.
There is also the sense of the historical nature of the Obama presidency, much the same as Kennedy. Obama has earned his place in history and some reporter will not want to be on the wrong side of history.
This will create opportunity for Matt Drudge and other members of the “New Media” to be a bit more thorough than their “traditional media” counterparts. It was this same opportunity that existed during the Clinton administration that opened the door for Drudge in the first place.
Actualy...Im a big fan of drudge. I go there for the other side of the news. Switch back and forth for different takes on the same stories. Amazing how different they can be between cnn and Drudge. Somewhere in the middle is the truth.
